Emptyset ist das innovative Elektronik-Duo von James Ginzburg und Paul Purgas. Das Paar teilt eine Geschichte in Bristols Underground-Musikszene und eine beeindruckende Liste von Produktionsgutschriften. Ginzburg, heute in Berlin ansässig, betreibt ein Netzwerk von Plattenlabels, darunter das elektronische Musiklabel Subtext und Arc Light Editions, die u. a. ein Werk von Arthur Russell neu herausgeben. Er ist ein produktiver Produzent und Remixer für Independent- und Major-Labels, mit diversen Projekten wie Faint Wild Light, Ginz und neuerdings Bleed Turquoise. Purgas, heute in London beheimatet, gründete 2009 das Label We Elude Control, eine Sammlung seltener experimenteller Musik. Purgas ist Künstler, Autor und Kurator, der Projekte mit Tate, Whitechapel und Serpentine Galleries präsentiert hat, und er ist auch ein aktiver Förderer elektronischer Musik in eklektischen Räumen, vom Parkplatz bis zum modernistischen Pavillon.

Nach Raster-Noton, Caravan Recordings & Subtext sind Emptyset nun auf bei Thrill Jockey beheimatet. Auf dem amerikanischen Label, auf dem unter anderem Tortoise ihre Alben veröffentlichen, erschien unlängst das Album »Border«. Am 20. Oktober folgt ihre neue EP »Skin«, die nicht nur im Titel das Album fortsetzt (die Haut als Grenze des Menschen zur Umwelt). Hier wie dort konzentrieren sich Emptyset auf die Veränderung der Klangfarben und untersuchen die Beziehung zwischen Rhythmus, Textur und Raum, für den die Martin Luther Kirche nicht passender sein könnte.

Emptyset is the innovative electronic duo of James Ginzburg and Paul Purgas. The pair shares a history in Bristol’s underground music scene as well as an impressive list of production credits. Ginzburg, now Berlin based, runs a network of record labels including electronic music label Subtext and Arc Light Editions, whose reissues include a work by Arthur Russell. He’s a prolific producer and remixer for both independent and major labels, with diverse projects such as Faint Wild Light, Ginz and more recently Bleed Turquoise. Purgas, now based in London, founded the We Elude Control label in 2009, a curated collection of rare experimental music. Purgas is an artist, writer and curator who has presented projects with Tate, Whitechapel and Serpentine Galleries, and he is also an active promoter of electronic music in eclectic spaces from a carpark to a Modernist pavilion.

After Raster-Noton, Caravan Recordings & Subtext Emptyset are now at Thrill Jockey. The album „Border“ was recently released on the American label, on which Tortoise released their albums. On October 20th, their new EP „Skin“ will follow, which will not only continue the album’s title theme (the skin as the human border to the environment). Here and there, Emptyset concentrate on changing the tonal colours and examine the relationship between rhythm, texture and space for which the Martin Luther Church could not be more suitable.
